- [4](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/4/) — Picture a beach after a storm: among the seaweed lies a black leathery pouch with curly corners.

- [7](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/7/) — Walking sharks can survive for hours with very little oxygen when a rock pool gets warm and stale at low tide.
- [8](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/8/) — Wobbegongs are flat sharks with patterned skin and frilly flaps around the mouth; they lie still on the seabed and snap up fish that come too close.
- [9](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/9/) — Wobbegongs are calm but will bite if stepped on or poked, and they can hold on tight; divers should look but never touch.
- [10](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/10/) — The cookiecutter shark is only about 50 centimetres long; it latches on with sucking lips and spins to cut a round plug of flesh out of whales, dolphins, seals and big fish.
- [11](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/11/) — The cookiecutter's belly glows to hide its shape against the light from above, except for a dark collar; some scientists think the collar lures big hunters close, but this is still argued.
- [12](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/12/) — The goblin shark of the deep sea is pink because its blood shows through its thin skin, and it can fling its jaws forward out of its face to grab prey.
- [13](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/13/) — The goblin shark's family goes back over 100 million years, so it is sometimes called a living fossil, and few people have seen one alive.
- [14](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/14/) — The megamouth shark was first found in 1976, when one got tangled in a ship's sea anchor off Hawaii; it filters tiny shrimp with its huge mouth, and only a few hundred have ever been recorded.
- [15](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/15/) — The dwarf lanternshark of the Caribbean deep is one of the smallest sharks, about 20 centimetres long, shorter than a 30-centimetre school ruler; it glows.
- [16](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/16/) — Swell sharks gulp water to puff themselves up and wedge into rock cracks so a predator cannot pull them out.
- [17](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/311-sharks-by-kind-small-and-strange-walking-sharks-wobbegongs-cookiecutters-and-goblin-sharks/17/) — A mermaid's purse is the egg case of a catshark, skate or ray; curly tendrils at its four corners hold it to seaweed while the baby grows for months.
