- [0](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/0/) — Every cat in the big cats house is built for its own home: the snow leopard wraps its long furry tail round its face like a scarf, and its wide paws work like snowshoes on mountain snow.
- [1](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/1/) — The jaguar has the strongest bite of any big cat for its size, strong enough to crack a turtle's shell, and the clouded leopard can walk down a tree trunk head first like a squirrel.
- [2](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/2/) — Keepers know that a bored cat is an unhappy cat, so they throw in a cardboard box stuffed with hay and meat, or spray a little perfume on a log, and the tiger tears and the lion sniffs and rolls.
- [3](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/3/) — It is just what your kitten does with a box or a ball of string, because play and searching are practice for hunting, only a tiger's ball must be huge and tough.
- [4](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/4/) — Snow leopards live high in the mountains of Central Asia; their tail is almost as long as their body and keeps the face warm and helps them balance on cliffs.
- [5](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/5/) — A snow leopard's wide, fur-covered paws spread its weight like snowshoes so it does not sink; it cannot roar and makes a puffing sound instead.
- [6](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/6/) — The jaguar has the strongest bite of any big cat for its size and often kills by biting through the skull or a turtle's shell.
- [7](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/7/) — Jaguars and leopards both have rosettes, but a jaguar's usually have small dots inside; jaguars live in the Americas and leopards in Africa and Asia.
- [9](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/9/) — Clouded leopards can climb down trees head first because their ankles turn backwards, and they have the longest canine teeth for their size of any living cat.
- [10](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/10/) — A cheetah hunts by sight, so it likes a high spot to watch open land; it can reach about 100 kilometres per hour, but only for a few hundred metres before it overheats.
- [11](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/11/) — Enrichment means giving animals things to search, smell, tear and solve, like boxes of hay and meat, so their day is more like life in the wild.
- [12](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/12/) — Keepers sometimes spray perfume or spices in an enclosure, because new smells give cats something to explore, like a new toy.
- [13](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/13/) — Pumas, also called cougars or mountain lions, chirp, hiss, purr and scream but cannot roar; a mountain lion is not a lion.
- [14](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/14/) — There are about 40 kinds of wild cats, and most are small, like the swamp-hunting fishing cat with slightly webbed feet and the desert sand cat, whose hairy paws stop its feet burning on hot sand.
- [15](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/82-big-cats-house-snow-leopards-jaguars-small-cats/15/) — Big cats play with balls, ropes and barrels, especially young ones, because play trains the moves they need for hunting.
