- [1](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/1/) — Each of these animals is built for its own life: the goat's flat pupils watch the ground for wolves, the cow's long tongue grabs grass, and the rabbit's front teeth never stop growing.
- [2](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/2/) — Many cartoon ideas about farm animals are wrong: goats do not eat tin cans, pigs are not dirty, donkeys are not stupidly stubborn, and Bugs Bunny's carrots are not good rabbit food.
- [3](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/3/) — The animals look clean and healthy, but their fur and droppings can carry germs that upset people's tummies, so everyone washes with soap at the sinks by the exit.
- [4](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/4/) — Goats are curious browsers that nibble a bit of everything, but they do not really eat tin cans; they nibble paper labels and test things with their lips.
- [5](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/5/) — Goats and sheep have wide, flat pupils that give a wide view of the ground to spot predators, and when a goat lowers its head its eyes turn to keep the pupils level.
- [6](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/6/) — Farm sheep grow wool all the time and must be shorn every year, because people bred them to keep their wool; a sheep called Shrek in New Zealand escaped shearing for six years and grew 27 kilograms of wool.
- [7](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/7/) — Guinea pigs come from the Andes mountains of South America; they are prey animals and feel safest held low, close and gently, and they are neither pigs nor from Guinea; nobody is sure how they got the name.
- [8](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/8/) — The front teeth, or incisors, of rabbits and guinea pigs grow all their lives and are worn down by chewing tough grass and hay.
- [9](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/9/) — Too many carrots are sugary and bad for rabbits, whose food should be mostly hay and grass; Bugs Bunny chewing carrots all day is a cartoon idea.
- [10](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/10/) — Pigs have very few sweat glands, so they roll in mud to cool down and protect their skin, and given space they keep a separate spot for their toilet.
- [11](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/11/) — Pigs can learn tricks, solve puzzles and, in experiments, play simple video games with a joystick, and they find buried food with their noses.
- [12](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/12/) — A cow wraps its long rough tongue round grass because it has no top front teeth, only a hard pad.
- [13](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/13/) — A cow's stomach has four parts, and it chews its food twice, bringing it back up as cud.
- [14](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/14/) — Chickens scratch the ground for seeds, worms and insects like their wild ancestor, the red junglefowl of Asian forests, and there are more chickens than any other bird.
- [15](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/biology/96-the-petting-farm-goats-sheep-pigs-rabbits-and-washing-hands/15/) — Farm animals can carry germs like E. coli on their fur and in their droppings without being ill, so soap and water are best, and you should not eat in the petting area.
