- [0](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/0/) — Alice jumps up after her fall, sees the White Rabbit hurrying down a passage and races after him, but he turns a corner and vanishes, leaving her in a long, low hall lit by lamps.
- [1](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/1/) — All the doors are locked; then she finds a little glass table with a tiny golden key, which opens only a little door fifteen inches high, and through it she sees the loveliest garden, but she is far too big to get in.
- [2](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/2/) — Back at the table a bottle labelled "DRINK ME" has appeared; sensible Alice checks it is not marked "poison", tastes it, finds it delicious and shrinks to ten inches.
- [3](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/3/) — But she has left the key on top of the glass table, cannot climb the slippery leg, and sits down and cries, then tells herself off sharply.
- [4](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/4/) — Under the table she finds a little cake marked "EAT ME", reasons that any change of size will help, and eats it all: the part ends on a cliffhanger, full of hope and worry at once.
- [5](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/5/) — The Rabbit, turning a corner, says "Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it's getting!", and then disappears.
- [6](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/6/) — The hall is long and low, lit by a row of lamps hanging from the roof, with locked doors all round.
- [7](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/7/) — On a three-legged table of solid glass Alice finds only a tiny golden key; it is too small for the big doors.
- [10](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/10/) — Alice wishes she could "shut up like a telescope", meaning fold down smaller like a pull-out telescope.
- [11](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/11/) — So many out-of-the-way things had happened that Alice "had begun to think that very few things indeed were really impossible".
- [12](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/12/) — A little bottle labelled "DRINK ME" appears on the table, "which certainly was not here before", Alice says.
- [13](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/13/) — Alice remembers stories of children who were burnt or eaten by wild beasts because they forgot simple rules, so she checks the bottle is not marked "poison"; one rule she remembers is that if you drink much from a bottle marked "poison", "it is almost certain to disagree with you" (make you ill).
- [14](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/14/) — The drink tastes of cherry-tart, custard, pine-apple, roast turkey, toffee and hot buttered toast, and it shrinks her to "only ten inches high".
- [15](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/15/) — She waits to see if she will shrink further, worried she might go out "like a candle".
- [16](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/16/) — She forgot the key on the table; the glass leg is too slippery to climb, so she cries.
- [17](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/17/) — Alice "generally gave herself very good advice, (though she very seldom followed it)", and she once tried to box her own ears for cheating at croquet against herself; to "box someone's ears" means to slap them on the side of the head, which nobody should do today.
- [19](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/books/2-alice-ch1-part2-the-little-door/19/) — A glass box under the table holds a small cake with "EAT ME" marked in currants (small dried grapes); her plan: "if it makes me grow larger, I can reach the key; and if it makes me grow smaller, I can creep under the door", so either way she gets into the garden.
