- [1](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/1/) — To a friend your own age you say pryVIT (prih-VEET), or the very street zdorOv (zdo-ROV), often with a fist bump.
- [2](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/2/) — When your friend Sashko's mum opens the door, you switch to the polite DObryi DEN (good day) — in the morning DObroho RANku, in the evening DObryi VEchir.
- [3](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/3/) — Then comes the quick question yak spRAvy? (how's it going?), and the easy answer NOrmalno (fine) — nobody wants a long list.
- [4](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/4/) — When you leave the park you shout BUvai or poKA to your friends, the way you'd shout «bye!» or «see ya!».
- [5](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/5/) — pryVIT means hi or hello; it is the informal hello for friends, brothers, sisters and kids your age; a grown-up may say it to a kid, but a guest kid greets grown-ups with DObryi DEN; it sounds a little like «private» but has nothing to do with it.
- [6](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/6/) — zdorOv is a very casual hiya, short for «be healthy», used between boys and close friends, often with a handshake or a fist bump — never to a granny or a teacher.
- [7](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/7/) — DObryi DEN means good day; it is the safe polite hello to a friend's mum, dad, granny, a neighbour or a shopkeeper from late morning on.
- [9](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/9/) — DObryi VEchir means good evening, said to adults when you come over in the evening.
- [10](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/10/) — zdrAstuite is a polite hello that some older people use; it can sound old-fashioned or Russian to some, and many Ukrainian families now prefer DObryi DEN, which is always a fine answer.
- [11](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/11/) — yak spRAvy? means how are you or how's it going; it is a quick hello question, not a request for a long report.
- [12](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/12/) — yak ty? asks one friend how he is, using ty, the close «you»; to an elder or to several people you say yak vy?
- [13](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/13/) — vy is both «you all» and the polite «you» to one grown-up, so yak vy? suits the friend's mum or granny.
- [14](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/14/) — NOrmalno means fine or okay, and DObre means good; it is the everyday answer to «how are you?», often followed by a ty? (and you?), or a vy? to a grown-up.
- [15](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/15/) — BUvai is an informal bye to friends; to a granny you would say do pobAchennya instead.
- [16](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/school/ukrainian-street/1-hi-hello-and-how-are-you/16/) — poKA means bye or see ya between kids; on its own it can also mean «for now» or «while».
