### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah "ascribe greatness" means to give God the honor and praise that belong to Him. In Job and Chronicles to ascribe something to God means to give or credit it to Him, such as glory, strength or righteousness, or to blame Him wrongly. Interpretation: Moses' call to ascribe greatness to God is read as an invitation for Israel to praise Him aloud. Job is praised for not ascribing anything unseemly to God, even in his suffering. In the primary lessons: In the stiff exam and history voice, «ascribed to» means «said to come from». A poem ascribed to someone may not be proved to be theirs. Phrases: ascribe something to something.
