### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the laws about skin disease, a bright spot is a pale, shiny patch on the skin that the priest must examine. In the later books it also means shining, polished or full of light, as in bright metal, bright skies, and a bright face. Interpretation: The priest, not the doctor, judged whether a spot made someone unclean, and tradition sees these laws as about spiritual purity and speech, not just illness. Psalms says wine and oil make the face bright, a picture of joy and well-being. In the primary lessons: In science: the Sun is very bright — never look at it directly; bright light makes pupils smaller; reflective and bright clothes help drivers see you at night (be bright, be seen). In art: bright and dark colours. In stories: a bright idea, a bright morning. Phrases: bright light, bright colours, bright idea, bright and early, look on the bright side, bright future.
