### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: Here it means the jaw. The cheeks, shoulder and maw are the priest's share of animals offered. In the psalms and Lamentations it is also the side of the face, which is adorned or struck. Interpretation: The priests' gifts are a part of the support they receive because they have no land of their own. Lamentations speaks of giving the cheek to the one who strikes, read as a picture of patient suffering. In the primary lessons: In body and health lessons, cheeks go red when you are cold, hot, shy or embarrassed; hamsters store food in their cheek pouches. In manners lessons, giving cheek (being cheeky) to a teacher or parent is rude. In some cultures people greet with a kiss on the cheek. Phrases: rosy cheeks, cheek to cheek, tongue in cheek, turn the other cheek, a cheeky grin.
