Interpretation: It is the title Christians give to Jesus. Westcott, a Christian writer, adds it in his own comment, and it is not part of the Jewish text. In the primary lessons: In religious education and history it is the name in «Jesus Christ», the centre of Christianity, and it gives words like Christian, Christianity and Christmas. In stories a character saying «Christ!» shows strong shock or anger, but it is not polite. Phrases: Jesus Christ, before Christ (BC), the life of Christ.

### note

A name, so always with a capital C: Christ. «Ch» sounds like «k» and the «i» is long: KRYST. Using it as a swear word is offensive to many people; do not use it that way. «Christian» and «Christmas» come from it, but the «t» in Christmas is silent.
