In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In Sefer Yetzirah, composed means put together, as God joins the Hebrew letters to build things. In Ecclesiastes it means gathered and put together in collections. Interpretation: The book teaches that God made the world by combining the twenty-two letters in many ways. Abraham is said to have learned this and done the same. Tradition reads Ecclesiastes as saying the sayings of the wise are gathered, like nails, from one shepherd, meaning God. In the primary lessons: In science, what something is made of; in maths, a number composed of tens and ones; in music lessons, a composer composed a piece; in stories, a composed character stays calm. Use «composed OF», not «composed from». «Comprise» and «composed of» mean similar things. In maths: «composed of» tells you the parts — add them for the whole (14 boys + 16 girls = 30 pupils). Noun «composer» (a person who writes music); «composition» (a piece of writing or music).
