### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah it is often a sacred covering, such as the ark-cover, the gold lid on the ark. It can also mean to hide or protect. In the poets it also means shelter, and to cover blood means to hide a wrong. Interpretation: The ark-cover (kapporet) was where God's presence met Moses, and the high priest sprinkled blood there on Yom Kippur. Its name is linked to kapparah, meaning atonement. Job's wish that the earth not cover his blood is read as a cry that his wrong be known and answered. In the primary lessons: maths: areas to be covered by tiles, paint or grass (tiles = area ÷ area of one tile); also distances covered or the cover of a book; science: animals use cover to hide; everyday life: cover your mouth when you cough, cover the food; safety: take cover in a storm
