### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah it means to injure the body, such as in the groin. It is also a blemish for priests and animals. In the Prophets and Writings it also means to oppress or break people by force or by hurtful words, as the wicked crush God's people. Interpretation: A man so injured cannot enter the assembly of the LORD, and an animal with crushed organs cannot be offered. Tradition reads these laws as keeping offerings whole and perfect. The psalms and Job show the crushed turning to God, and tradition reads God as the one who hears the oppressed. In the primary lessons: In cooking and science, you crush garlic, biscuits or ice; crushing changes the shape but not the material (a physical change). In recycling, cans are crushed to save space. In safety, heavy things like falling furniture or TVs can crush small children, so furniture should be fixed to the wall, and doors can crush fingers. In feelings lessons, having a crush is normal. Phrases: have a crush on, crushed ice, a crushing defeat, crush hazard.
