### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: It means a holy festival time as well as a big meal. Three feasts are commanded each year. It can also be a meal given by a person, such as a banquet for guests, and a feast-day marked by the new or full moon. Interpretation: The three feasts are Passover (Pesach), Shavuot and Sukkot, called the pilgrim festivals. Jews gathered at the Temple for them, and today they are kept with special meals and prayers. The psalm calls for the horn to be blown at the new and full moon for the feast-day, and the prophet speaks of the feasts coming round each year. In the primary lessons: In stories, kings hold feasts and banquets. In everyday life, family celebrations can be a feast. In nature: birds feast on berries. Phrases: «feast your eyes on» (look at with pleasure), «a midnight feast» (a secret snack party, popular in school stories).
