### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: It is the great flood in Noah's time, and years are counted from it. The psalms and prophets also use "floods" as a picture of rushing waters of danger, and of rivers rejoicing. Interpretation: Tradition reads Noah's flood as God's judgment on a world full of violence. Noah's ark saved him, his family and the animals. David's "floods" of trouble are read as a picture of great danger from which God rescued him. In the primary lessons: In geography and safety, floods come from heavy rain, rivers bursting their banks, storms at sea or melting snow. Flood safety: move to higher ground, never walk, swim, cycle or drive through flood water (it can be deep, fast, dirty and hide dangers), and listen to warnings. In stories and myths, great floods appear in many cultures. Phrases: flash flood, flood warning, flood water, in floods of tears, flood in, the floodgates.
