### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: Grass and herbs are signs of the land's fruitfulness and of God's blessing of rain. Pharaoh's dream has cows feeding in reed-grass, a word that is Egyptian in origin. The Prophets and Psalms also use withered grass as a picture of how short and weak human life is. Interpretation: Moses promises grass for the cattle as a reward for keeping God's commandments. The rabbis taught that a person should feed their animals before sitting down to eat. Tradition reads the withering grass as a reminder that only God lasts forever. In the primary lessons: a lawn to mow (area), or grass eaten by animals; heights of grass; in science: grass makes food from sunlight, cows and sheep eat grass, food chains start with grass; in everyday life: «keep off the grass», cutting the lawn; phrases: «the grass is always greener on the other side» (other things seem better than they are)
