### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah, to hate can also mean to love less or to favor less, as with Leah being "hated." It is forbidden to hate your brother in your heart. Interpretation: The command "Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thy heart" is read as a rule to speak up and settle quarrels openly, not to hold secret grudges. The rabbis say the Second Temple was destroyed because of baseless hatred. In the primary lessons: In feelings and kindness lessons: it is normal to dislike things or be angry, but hating people is harmful; «hate speech» and bullying because of who someone is are wrong. Saying «I hate you» can hurt deeply even if you did not mean it. In stories, hate can drive a villain, and love or friendship can overcome it. Phrases: «I hate it when…», «love-hate», «hate crime», «I'd hate to be late».
