### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: A pile of things, such as grain, stones or ruins. It can also mean the piles of gifts or offerings brought to the Temple, as in Hezekiah's time. Job uses it as a picture: his iniquity is "heaped up" as if God stores it. Interpretation: Tradition notes that the "heaps" in Chronicles were the great piles of gifts the people brought to the priests and Levites when they gave generously. Job's heaping of iniquity is read as his feeling that God keeps a careful record against him. In the primary lessons: A group of things counted or weighed; adding to or taking from a heap. In everyday life: a heap of laundry, a compost heap, a heaped teaspoon in a recipe. In stories: a heap of gold, a heap of leaves. Phrases: «a heap of», «heaps of», «heaps better», «in a heap».
