In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: "Here am I" (hineni) is the answer of a person who is ready to serve or to be sent. Isaiah says it when God calls, and other people in the Tanakh say it when they are called. Interpretation: The rabbis take "Here am I" as the sign of readiness and humility, as shown by Abraham, Moses and Isaiah. Isaiah's "Here am I; send me" is held up as the model of a person who volunteers for God's mission.
