### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: "Home-born" means born in the land, a native, as opposed to a stranger. Interpretation: At Sukkot all native Israelites live in booths, which the tradition says recalls God sheltering them in the wilderness. In the primary lessons: In maths, a place in the story, often a start or end point of a trip; also houses counted (homes built). In everyday life: home address, homework, feeling at home. In safety: know your home address and phone number, stay home when ill; never tell strangers online where your home is. In science, an animal's home is its habitat. In stories, the hero often leaves home and comes home again. In casual texts home is a time and a place: «home in 10». In the exam voice: «the distance between the residence and the school». Phrases: «at home», «go home», «home time», «make yourself at home», «homesick», «home and dry», «home sweet home».

### note

Countable noun: a home, homes. No «to» before home: «go home», not «go to home»; «at home» needs at. A place only; the clue is in distances and times. Trap: a trip «there and back home» is twice the one-way distance. Home (where you live) is not always a house: a flat or a tent can be a home. «Residence», «dwelling», «domicile» (formal) all mean home. «Homesick» means sad because you miss home. Euphemism trap: «went home» about a sick person can mean they died — read the rest. Safety: keep your home address private online.
