### sense in the lessons

Interpretation: Sefer Yetzirah counts the two nostrils with the eyes, ears and mouth as the seven gates of the body. In Psalms, the idols have noses that cannot smell, and in Job a nose-ring is a picture of taming a wild beast, which the tradition reads as showing that only God is truly alive and powerful. In the primary lessons: In science: the nose is the organ of smell; tiny hairs and mucus trap dust and germs; air is warmed in the nose. Dogs have much better noses than people. In hygiene: blow your nose into a tissue, throw it away and wash your hands; cover coughs and sneezes. In safety: don't put small things up your nose. Phrases: blow your nose, runny nose, nosebleed, pick your nose, under your nose, nosy, turn up your nose at.
