### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah it means to live a long time. "Prolong your days" is a blessing for a long life in the land. In Proverbs and Ecclesiastes it is also said of the righteous, while the wicked will not prolong their days. Proverbs links it to hating greed, and Ecclesiastes to fearing God. In the primary lessons: In stories and everyday life, people prolong a holiday, a visit or a game; in health, medicines may prolong life. In science, keeping food cold prolongs its freshness. Phrases: «prolong the agony», «prolong life», «prolonged» (long-lasting, as in «prolonged rain»).
