### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: Pure often means free of any mixture, as in "pure gold", and it can also mean ritually clean, fit for the holy place. In Job and the Psalms it also means clean in conduct and heart, free of sin. Interpretation: The Sanctuary's vessels were made of pure gold to honor God's dwelling, and "pure" (tahor) is the opposite of "unclean" (tamei) in the laws of purity. The Writings ask whether a person can be pure before God, and teach that a pure prayer and way of life come from keeping God's word. In the primary lessons: In science, a pure substance is made of only one thing (pure water, pure gold); most things around us are mixtures, like salt water or air. Mixtures can be separated by filtering, sieving or evaporating to get purer substances. Pure water has no taste, smell or colour and boils at 100 °C; tap water is safe but not totally pure. In everyday life, «pure orange juice» means nothing added. Phrases: «pure water», «pure gold», «pure luck», «pure joy», «pure and simple», «pure air».
