### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: It means the process or the time by which a person or thing becomes ritually clean again, often with water, ashes or blood. Interpretation: The ashes of the red heifer made the unclean clean, and a mother after childbirth waited a set time before she could enter the sanctuary; the tradition sees these as rules of holiness, not of health. In the primary lessons: In science and geography lessons water purification makes water safe to drink (filtering, boiling, chlorine). In religious education many faiths have purification rituals; in church the Feast of the Purification (Candlemas, 2 February) remembers Mary taking baby Jesus to the Temple.
