### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: Jeremiah's words were read aloud in Babylon, and a letter was read to Jeremiah. In Ezra, a letter of the king was read before the officials. Interpretation: Moses reading the book of the covenant and the king reading the law before all Israel are the roots of public Torah reading. Today the Torah is read aloud in the synagogue each week. Reading the prophets' words aloud is a sign that God's message is meant to be heard. In the primary lessons: reading the whole problem carefully before choosing what to do («Read the question again: what does it ask for?»); as a story verb «read N pages» counts pages; in class reading books, reading aloud; in science read a thermometer or a scale; in everyday life reading signs, reading at bedtime

### note

As a story verb, «read N pages» counts pages; read twice on different days usually means add. Trap: «has read 15 of 40» asks for what is left, 40 − 15. The past form is spelled «read» but said «red». Do not mix «read» (past) with «red» (the colour).
