In the Prophets and Psalms God redeems Israel from trouble, sin and death. Interpretation: The firstborn sons must be redeemed with money, called pidyon haben, and the nearest relative has a duty to redeem a family member sold into slavery; God is also said to redeem Israel from Egypt. The Psalms pray that God will redeem Israel from all troubles and sins, and tradition reads this as hope for a final redemption.
