### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: Salt is used in the offerings and the incense. The Salt Sea is the Dead Sea. Lot's wife became a pillar of salt. Salty land is barren wilderness, and there was a City of Salt in Judah. Interpretation: Salt is added to every sacrifice, and tradition still dips bread in salt at the Shabbat table, which is likened to the altar. Lot's wife is seen as punished for looking back at the doomed city. In the primary lessons: In maths: a small amount in a recipe (teaspoons, grams); bags of salt; salt per liter of seawater, a rate. In science: salt dissolves in water; evaporating seawater leaves salt; salt lowers the freezing point of water, so it melts ice on roads. In health: too much salt is bad for you. In stories: «worth his salt» means good at his job.
