### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Writings it means understanding or good judgment. Job says God takes away the sense of elders, and in Nehemiah the Levites "gave the sense" of the Torah, meaning they explained its meaning. Interpretation: The tradition sees Nehemiah's verse as the start of teaching and translating the Torah to the public, a model for Torah study. In the primary lessons: In maths it is a word about checking: «Does the answer make sense?» — is it a sensible size, the right unit, not negative people? Science: the five senses and the organs that go with them (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin). Everyday: common sense, a sense of direction, a sense of humour, it makes no sense.

### note

Noun and verb. «Five senses» may hide the number 5. About checking, not about quantities: an answer of 3.5 buses or −2 apples does not make sense. Trap: «sense» is not «since» (because) or «cents» (money), which sound similar. «Sensible» means having good sense; «sensitive» means feeling things strongly — not the same.
