### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: "The sole of the foot" is used to speak of the land Israel will walk on and of being struck head to foot; the promise of land is as far as feet will tread. God repeats the promise to Joshua, and the king of Assyria boasts that with the sole of his feet he dried up Egypt's rivers. Interpretation: The land promised to Israel is read as being as wide as the people actually settle in it, and Esau's mountain is spared as his own gift from God. The Assyrian's boast is read as pride that God punished. In the primary lessons: In science lessons, the sole of the foot is a body part; in everyday life shoes have rubber soles for grip. In stories, a "sole survivor" is the only one left. Phrases: the sole of your foot, rubber soles, sole owner, sole purpose.
