### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: The sun is the sun of our sky, whose light and heat the Bible often uses. "Under the sun" is Ecclesiastes' phrase for everything in this world, and the psalms say God set a tent for the sun in the heavens. Interpretation: Jews count the day from sunset and set prayer times by sunrise and sunset. Tradition says the sun is a creature made by God and not a god to be worshipped. "Under the sun" is read as life in this world, where much seems empty. In the primary lessons: In science, the Sun is a star at the centre of our solar system; the Earth goes around it in one year and spins once a day, giving day and night. Plants need sunlight to make food. In safety: never look straight at the sun, wear sunscreen and a hat, drink water on hot days. Phrases: in the sun, sunrise, sunset, the sun rises/sets, sun cream, sunburn.
