### sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: Unleavened bread, called matzah, is what the Israelites ate when they left Egypt in a hurry. The Torah commands it for the seven days of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Interpretation: Jews keep this as Passover (Pesach) and eat matzah to remember the Exodus. They also remove all leavened food (chametz) from their homes. In the primary lessons: old use, in tales and religious stories; children may meet it in stories about old bread, flat cakes or travellers' food
