The words HOLY TO THE LORD were written on the priest's gold plate. In Daniel it is also a royal written order, and the mysterious writing on the wall. Interpretation: The rabbis thought the tablets' writing was a wonder, since the letters stood out through the stone. The gold plate on the high priest's forehead is read as a sign of holiness. The writing MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN is read as God's judgment on Belshazzar's kingdom. In the primary lessons: In school, "writing" is a whole subject: creative writing, persuasive writing, story writing, joined-up writing. Teachers mark your writing for ideas, spelling, punctuation and handwriting. "In writing" means written down, which makes it official: "Please put your request in writing." "The writing is on the wall" means trouble is clearly coming (from a story in the Bible, Daniel 5).
