«Bound» is also the past of «bind» (bind, bound, bound). «Bound to» + verb means «certain to», not «tied to». «-bound» at the end of a word can mean «stuck» (housebound, snowbound) or «heading» (northbound). Do not confuse with «bounce». In maths an upper bound means the true number cannot be bigger than it.
