### meaning for a pupil

1) Having enough water in your body; not thirsty or dried out. [tree →](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/H/hydrated/#m1)

### sense in the lessons

In health and PE lessons «stay hydrated» means drink enough water, especially in hot weather and during sport. In science, hydrated crystals contain water; heating them drives the water off (blue copper sulphate turns white). On skincare bottles «hydrated» means moist. Phrases: stay hydrated, keep hydrated, well hydrated, hydrated salt.

### note

Opposite: «dehydrated» (not enough water). «Hydr-» comes from Greek for water (hydrant, hydroelectric). A safety point: thirst, headache, tiredness and dark urine can be signs you need more water. Myth: everyone needs exactly eight glasses a day — needs depend on age, weather and activity, and food also contains water.
