### sense in the lessons

In maths Roman numerals: I = 1, II = 2, III = 3, IV = 4, V = 5. In books and lists it numbers sections: (i), (ii), (iii). After a name it means «the second»: «Henry II» is read «Henry the Second». Phrases: part II, question (ii), Elizabeth II.

### note

Not a word but a number written with letters. Small letters (i, ii, iii) are often used for sub-parts of a question. After a king's or queen's name, say «the Second». In Roman numerals II + II = IV, not IIII (though some clocks show IIII).
