### part of speech

2) In a way that fits each single person or thing: each cake was individually decorated. [tree →](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/I/individually/#m2)

### sense in the lessons

In school: «work individually, then share with a partner»; «the teacher spoke to us individually». In shops and maths: items «individually wrapped» or «sold individually» (one by one, not in a pack). It tells the reader each one is treated alone.

### note

Adjective: individual; noun: an individual (one person). In maths, «sold individually» means price per single item; compare it with the pack price to find the better deal (e.g. 5 × 50p = £2.50, so the £2 pack saves 50p). Spelling: double l.
