### sense in the lessons

In geography, inland places are far from the sea; they often have hotter summers and colder winters than the coast, because the sea keeps coastal weather milder. Inland lakes, rivers and deserts are studied on maps: Lake Superior is a huge inland lake; much of inland Australia is the dry Outback. In everyday life, when there is a storm or tsunami warning, people may be told to move inland and to higher ground. Phrases: "move inland", "inland waterways", "inland sea", "far inland", "head inland".
