In art lessons a model holds a pose while others draw. In everyday life we pose for photos. In maths and science teachers «pose a question». In safety: someone may pose as a delivery driver or a friend online to trick people, so check who people really are. Phrases: pose for a photo, strike a pose, pose a threat, pose a problem, pose as.

### note

Past: posed, -ing: posing (drop the e). «Pose a threat/risk/danger» is a formal phrase. Do not confuse with «pause» (stop for a moment), which sounds different. «Posing as» means pretending — a warning sign in safety lessons.
