# Friendship

**Gist.** Friendship and loyalty: do not betray, give thanks, keep your word.

**Conditions and exceptions.** Loyalty to someone who does evil is not a virtue.

**Examples.**

- The Two Friends and the Bear (Aesop): one friend climbed a tree and abandoned the other. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
- The Lion and the Mouse: gratitude and mutual help make friends of unequals.

**Sources.** Aesop's fables; Jn 15:13.
