# Help your neighbour

**Gist.** Mercy: help someone in trouble, even when they are weaker and cannot repay right away.

**Conditions and exceptions.** Help that harms others is not mercy.

**Examples.**

- The Lion and the Mouse (Aesop): the lion let the mouse go, and later the mouse gnawed through the net and saved the lion. The small can help the great.
- The Good Samaritan (Lk 10:30–37): he helped a stranger when others passed by.

**Sources.** Aesop's fables; Lk 10:25–37.
