## What it is about

The full text is not in the library (the download failed) and the repository record carries no abstract, so this card rests on the title and the catalogue record alone; the ideas are provisional. The lecture deals with how Mishnaic Hebrew came about and the part played by contact with Aramaic, the everyday language of Judea in the Second Temple and Roman periods. The usual points in this debate are features of Mishnaic Hebrew that have Aramaic parallels: the relative שֶׁ־, the genitive שֶׁל, the participle as present tense, the loss of the waw-consecutive forms, and loanwords. Whether the lecture argues for strong contact influence or for an internal, vernacular development is not known without the text.

## Ideas

- I1. (provisional) In the Mishnaic chapter, tag each feature that sets Mishnaic Hebrew apart from Biblical Hebrew with its likely source: inherited (already in the Bible, rare), internal change, or Aramaic contact (parallel in Aramaic of the period), so that the comparison table says why, not only what.
- I2. (provisional) Cross-link the Hebrew and Aramaic manuals on the contact features: for each, the Aramaic form (דִּי/דְּ for שֶׁ־, participle-present) next to the Mishnaic one.

## For Mova

I1 belongs in [11. Mishnaic Hebrew (hbo-x-mishnaic)](https://md.mova.elamur.ai/free/en/docs/languages/hbo/11-mishnaic/) and `12-biblical-mishnaic-modern.md`; I2 links them to `languages/arc/` (in preparation). Fetch the transcript before relying on anything here.
